COVID-19 Mental Health Tip: Limit Exposure

Obviously, social distancing and quarantining and proper handwashing, etc., help limit exposure to the Corona virus. Duh. Do that.

But that's not the exposure I'm talking about. There’s a different virus sweeping the globe right now and it’s called anxiety. And it's SUPER contagious!

So, let's take a page from the CDC playbook with COVID and limit exposure. That looks like keeping distance from news and social media and (this sounds callous, but bear with me) infected friends and family. Everyone is allowed to be anxious...your friends and family aren’t wrong, shit's scary right now. But you are also allowed to compassionately set limits on exposure. ("Makes sense your anxious, I'm anxious too. Can we talk about later/can we talk about something else right now?") If you do get exposed, be sure to "wash your hands" by distracting or meditating or deep breathing afterward.

If you keep boundaries, then you can show up healthy when your friends and family need you and can be more grounded and refueled when you do watch the news or scroll social media.

If you are struggling with anxiety and fear over the uncertainty of what is happening, please reach out to us. We want to help people through this, so we are offering virtual sessions for new and existing clients.
