Blyth Treuhaft, M. Ed, MS, LPC

3 Quick Things to Know

  1. While I subscribe to evidenced based modalities, I only employ them after developing a client-centered therapeutic relationship that emphasizes the client’s inherent worth and dignity. In addition, I like to incorporate humor when possible.

  2. Coming to therapy does not mean you are weak. Rather, choosing to seek therapy demonstrates strength and self-efficacy.  As a result, my role is to curate a process with you that unveils your ability to reach your goals and affords you the tools and skills necessary to actualize them in your life.  Simply put, I like to put myself out of a job.

  3. My services include individual, couples, and family therapy.  I treat:

    1. Individual clients for stress, self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, and life transitions.

    2. Couple clients for communication issues, disconnection, infidelity or affairs, life transitions, grief, pre-marital, and life transitions.

    3. Family clients for communication issues, parenting, grief, and life transitions.

About Blyth

I am in the process of running the ultra-marathon of parenthood with my partner and best friend of 22 years, raising three feisty, unique, and ever-evolving children, ranging in ages from 10 to 18.  My husband and children are both my happy place and my anchor.   My husband’s loyalty, patience and commitment help allay my avoidant tendencies, and he helped make possible the greatest gift of my life--my three children.

Rory, my firstborn, and Gentry, my second born, taught me unabashed, fearless love while Maura, my last born, taught me the gift of unexpected blessings.  While the love I feel for these guys is infinite, each day presents a new challenge and requires an ever-evolving parenting strategy. Currently, my husband and I are reading a new book regarding discipline.  We know there is always more to learn, even after parenting for 18 years.  I ascribe to the same commitment to education in my therapy practice.

My love of learning intersects with my competitive nature, which began they day I was born as a triplet, a girl with two brothers.  From the beginning, I had to learn how to hold my own.  I was the first child to sit-up and, apparently, would push my brothers over when they tried.  In addition, my parents expected our best efforts in all that we pursued.  It was less about the outcome and more about our dedication to doing our best.  While one brother and I remain competitive to this day, even having our first children one month apart, I lost my other brother to suicide at 17.  His loss forever changed my life and my family’s.  While family therapy was instrumental in our ability to move forward, it took about three years to develop new family dynamics that nurtured safety, openness, and trust.  From this time in my life, I learned that I cannot rush a client’s journey for growth and healing.

Having said this, I do believe our mental and emotional health require a consistent workout regimen that intentionally incorporates professional expertise to foster constructive, lasting habits and skills that foster a meaningful existence. My objective is to help facilitate a collaborative process that allows for this skill acquisition, while ultimately putting myself out of a job.  I will require couples, individuals, and families to ‘work’ between sessions, as experience teaches us that you cannot just do something for an hour a week and expect it to become a habit. Having said this, the ‘work’ will be determined in collaboration with clients to ensure it supports their therapeutic goals.

I consider myself very fortunate, as I had the privilege of becoming a therapist later in life after careers as a software consultant and private caterer.  I believe my professional and personal experiences and maturity contribute to my success with clients.  Furthermore, it is not lost on me how lucky I am to love what I do and to have clients trust me to shepherd them through challenging seasons of their lives.
