COVID-19 Mental Health Tip: Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself.

There is so much info out there! It feels like things are changing on a dime and emotions are running higher than ever. When this happens, our brains fall into some common patterns that can actually end up making the situation feel worse. But it's important to remember that your thoughts are not facts. Just because you think it, doesn’t mean it's true, especially when your brain has fallen into unhelpful patterns.

Thankfully, some Cognitive Behavioral Therapists studied and identified these patterns (called cognitive distortions) and some graphic-design minded therapists created a helpful graphic so you can see what you are dealing with.

Now all we need to do is be mindful of them, and, when we notice our brains falling into these patterns, practice challenging them with more rational thoughts. Instead of looping around your brain with thoughts that may be based on emotion more than fact and spiraling into anger, fear, or collapse, use this worksheet and check yourself before you wreck yourself.

If you need more help than this handout can offer, we are here (virtually) to help! We are now offering virtual sessions for new and current clients, so don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or to book a virtual appointment.
