COVID-19 Mental Health Tip: Break Out Those Break-Up Songs

Break-up songs?? I mean, we’re kinda in a break-up with the old way of being with all that's going on, right!? We're all grieving the loss of our sense of normalcy and predictability. That brings up all the feelings of sadness, anger, and some empowerment...all the classic feelings artists have poured into breakup songs for forever. So why not let yourself feel some of those feelings and feel connected by listening to breakup music. On a nerdy note, singing helps turn on your parasympathetic nervous system which helps create a sense of calm and dancing helps release stress, tension, and trauma, and doing both keep you firmly grounded in the present moment...and it's just fun!

Today I stumbled upon a playlist curated by Katy Perry on Amazon Music that was all breakup/moving on songs. As she says in the intro, "some songs are uplifting that help you feel better and some create space for the sadness and hold you and cocoon you in the sad moment so you can get all the tears out and feel better about yourself."

Here’s the link to the playlist:

If you don’t love those songs, no worries. But I hope you find or create your own playlist to get those feelings out!!
