Winning the Pandemic

How are you winning in the pandemic? No, seriously.

There’s no way you aren’t winning in at least one way. I was listening to a podcast today (Rachel Hollis #176) and she is going over how to do a yearly assessment of what was great, what sucked and what brought you joy or a win. She starts talking about why wins from this year especially more than any other are so important. She’s soooo right. If you don’t celebrate your wins, your brain goes, MEH, whatever, I suck at so many things. Even if you have ONLY one win from this crazy-awful-terrible-no good-very bad year, you better celebrate it. Celebrate the shit out of your own win/s. This year has been way too traumatic for everybody to not celebrate your win/s.

Dwelling on the sucky things keeps you stuck in the suck.

Let’s do a little mindset shift experiment and follow her lead. For Rachel, she’s celebrating things like…

HELLOOOOO!!!! You are ALIVE in a FREAKING GLOBAL PANDEMIC

“I had to approach life differently, my children’s education, my business, my work, my interactions with friends and family and I am still standing - YAY ME!”

Just FYI to all of you, I am QUEEN of emotional self-flagellation and I am making every effort to stop that. So, here’s a list I just threw together of my wins from the most ridiculous year ever.

My pandemic wins:

  • I AM HOME ALL FREAKING DAY WITH MY WHOLE FAMILY FOR 9 MONTHS NOW AND I HAVEN’T RUN AWAY ONCE - TOTAL WIN

  • I am alive in a global pandemic

  • I own and run a business and am RESPONSIBLE for 4 other people making a living (this one scared the crap out of me when the pandemic hit)

  • I moved my family into a beautiful new home and out of one that I have been putting up with for years because of the amazing location

  • I’ve become a really good cook and am “cafeteria manager” for 3 people most of the time. This is a part time job in addition to my other job

  • I am making summer plans, something to look forward to when this shit is over

  • I made Christmas special for my family and wrote all my thank you notes in record time

YAY ME!!!

Your brain is programmed to focus on lions and tigers and bears.

It’s constantly patrolling the perimeter looking for danger. It’s like Velcro for the bad and Teflon for the good. So, make your list and I am going to suggest that you hang it up, journal about it, or do something where you look at it daily and remind yourself that you have at least one effing win this year. Last but never least, reward and celebrate yourself - flowers, a great meal, an amazing glass of wine, maybe spend a little more than you normally would on something enjoyable. YOU RULE.

MAKE YOUR OWN LIST RIGHT NOW. RIGHT NOW! And if you can’t find one thing you are winning at, maybe it is time to chat with one of us so we can help you get out of the suck. Reach out today or schedule a virtual therapy appointment now.
